Salem Ash challenges Gideon Malice for the Title on Jan. 6 at Birch Run Expo

November 14th, 2017

Professional wrestling is usually not a career that brings success overnight. Wrestlers typically grind for years before finding their way. Many wrestlers work hard, but more often than not, rarely “make it.”  And then there’s that rare exception to the rule. Every great once in a while a diamond in the rough shows up. Every so often someone comes down the pike who has all the goods and has the raw ability to make an impact from the start. One of those rare exceptions is PPW’s rookie sensation Salem Ash.

Not much is known about Salem Ash other than what he’s shown PPW fans in the ring. Ash began training with Pure Pro Wrestling several months ago. According to his trainer Xavier Justice, from the first class he was in, it was clear that Ash was “something special.” Justice claims that “Ash is blessed with all the tools needed to make it in this industry.” If you haven't seen Ash for yourself, you may be missing out on pro wrestling's next big thing.

Despite outward appearance, Ash isn’t cocky; in fact, for a man who’s been undefeated for the past few months, he’s quite humble and eager to learn more. Justice claims that one of the things that makes Ash successful is that he’s “able to take each thing he learns and finds a way to apply it in the ring when he’s competing. If we’ve been working on armbars, Ash wins a match with an arm bar. If we’re working on powerslams, Ash is using them to turn the tide in his matches. He’s the consummate student.” Said Justice.

On November 12 in Flushing, Ash took to the ring following the conclusion of the Michigan State Heavyweight Title bout between Gideon Malice & Cobra TA. With Cobra soundly defeated, Ash realized that he had an opportunity and made a challenge to face Malice at the Birch Run Expo Center for his title on January 6. Malice, the 6’4 240 pound monster isn’t one to back down from a fight, therefore the challenge was accepted.

Ash is athletic, has the size, strength, and speed needed to defeat Malice, however as of late Malice has been all but unstoppable in the ring. Malice has not lost a match since August and has defeated every challenger since becoming Michigan State Heavyweight Champion. His list of defenses includes Father Time, Cobra TA, and Xavier Justice. In October he not only defeated ROH’s Beer City Bruiser, he left him nearly unconscious laying in a pool of his own blood. When Ash & Malice lock horns, fans are truly in for a treat.

At the time of press Malice is still the Michigan State Heavyweight Champion, however he is scheduled to defend his title against Impact Wrestling star Idris Abraham on Dec. 2 in Holland. Malice was asked if he would still be facing Ash if he lost his title in December. Malice simply stated “The Lion does not concern himself with thoughts of sheep.” As of now, Malice is scheduled to face Ash in Birch Run, however it will be interesting to see how the matchup between Malice and Abraham in Holland will affect the bout signed in Birch Run.
